Designed for learners seeking more than just dates and dynasties, the course encourages critical reflection on the sources, themes, and turning points that continue to influence Muslim communities today.
Over 8 weeks, participants will strengthen their historical thinking skills and explore topics including:
Week 1 – What defines “Islamic history”?
Week 2 – The rise and fall of Caliphates and Sultanates
Week 3 – The spread of Islam beyond Arabia
Week 4 – The role of scholars and spiritual leaders
Week 5 – The Golden Age and its legacies
Week 6 – Colonization, resistance, and decolonization
Week 7 – Internal challenges: division, reform, and secularism
Week 8 – What this all means for Muslim life in America
