Through a chronological and thematic approach\, the class examines the origins\, transformations\, disappearances\, and rediscoveries of American Muslim life within their religious\, social\, and political contexts. \nWeekly sessions explore enslaved African Muslims and Moriscos\, the reemergence of Islam in Blackamerica\, the rise and legacy of the Nation of Islam\, immigrant Muslim communities during eras of exclusion and expansion\, and contemporary Muslim life in New York City.
